Large parts of the protected area must be characterised as good production areas for ptarmigan (grouse). The rock ptarmigan is linked to the highest lying areas in the area, while the willow ptarmigan has its important habitat in the birch forest belt. There are small populations of the wood grouse and black grouse in the lowest lying forest areas within the protected area.

In relation to the total area, the proportion of wetland is relatively small. However, there are several subareas and individual localities that have an important function as a nesting area for wetland birds. The best known such area is Fokstumyra. A total of 127 bird species have been observed here, of which 69 are registered as breeding birds.
